Book Club just got spooky! Join Flinders writer and academic Amy T. Matthews and the AMY& podcast for a Halloween-themed discussion.

About this event

From classic horror and gothic fiction to contemporary thrillers, supernatural tales and eerie favourites, this session will explore why we’re drawn to unsettling stories, and how they reflect fear, imagination and the cultural moments we live in.

Blending conversation, storytelling and live recording, this session offers a unique finale to the series while keeping the relaxed and interactive feel of the Book Club.

About the Book Club Series

Supported by the University’s Thriving at Flinders program, the Library’s 2026 Book Club series is all about connection, wellbeing and the joy of leisure reading. Featuring Flinders University writers, it offers a relaxed space for staff and students to come together and share ideas.

About the speaker

Amy T. Matthews is an award-winning author and Associate Professor in Creative Writing at Flinders University.

Her novels have been published internationally and in translation, and are available in print, audio and ebook. She also writes under the names Amy Barry and Tess LeSue.

As an academic, Amy’s research focuses on genre fiction, particularly popular romance, historical fiction and fictions of climate change. She brings a strong interest in storytelling, genre and reader engagement to both her writing and teaching.

Amy is the host of the QBD Romance Book Club and co-host of the AMY& podcast.

Her publications include Someone Else’s Bucket List, voted onto the Better Reading Top 100 Books of 2025.
