Conflict and Cooperation in European History

The 30th Biennial Conference of the Australasian Association for European History (AAEH)

Flinders University, Adelaide

30 June – 2 July 2027

Papers might consider conflicts and forms of cooperation by focusing on any of the following themes:

• Nations, states and empires
• Cultural forms and traditions
• European and Indigenous peoples and perspectives
• Colonisers and colonised peoples
• Social classes
• War and peace
• Economics and business
• Gender and sexuality
• The state and society
• Migration
• Humanity and the environment
• The national and the supranational / transnational

As with other AAEH conferences, papers that address other aspects of modern European history are also sought.

Abstracts of no more than 220 words plus short biographies of no more than 100 words should be sent to the convenors (Professor Matt Fitzpatrick and Professor Andrekos Varnava) at the email address  aaeh2027@flinders.edu.au  The call for papers will close on 12 November 2026.

At the conference the AAEH will also award a prize for the best book in modern European History published by an author normally resident in Australasia. The 2027 prize will recognise a book published in 2025 or 2026. Please send a notification of intent to apply (with title of publication) to ben.mercer@anu.edu.au by 1 February 2027.
