Event Details

The Academic Preparation Program is series of five seminars giving students a headstart on their courses by providing them with an understanding of the important academic skills required for their work. These cover critical thinking, assignment preparation, academic reading and writing, and the basic maths which underpins many papers. Repeat sessions of seminars are offered throughout the week. Choose as many as you like!

The Critical Thinking session includes a review on the definition, challenges and benefits of critical thinking.

Material includes: Why think critically?, Critical reflexivity, Independent thinking, Unpacking reading texts, Context, purpose and audience, Text analysis and writing assignments, Critical analysis tips, Argument analysis, Essay question analysis, What is a good argument, The importance of evidence, and Argument structure.
