Taster Day – What You’ll Experience
Join us for a hands‑on Natural Sciences Taster Day where you’ll explore some of the most fascinating areas of science, from Biodiversity & Conservation to Palaeontology, Marine sciences, Environmental Science including coasts, oceans and groundwater, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) and Surveying, and Animal Behaviour.
Throughout the day, you’ll jump into interactive workshop sessions, meet the teaching staff who work in these fields, and get a real feel for what studying natural sciences at uni is like. It’s a fun, engaging way to discover your interests — and yes, there’s a free lunch included too!
Biodiversity & Conservation
Get hands‑on with the natural world as you explore how scientists study, protect and restore our planet’s incredible biodiversity. This workshop gives you a taste of what it’s like to work with real ecosystems and understand why conservation matters. A great session if you care about the environment and want to make a difference.
Palaeontology
Step into the palaeontology labs and discover how fossil researchers uncover the secrets of ancient life. You’ll get a behind‑the‑scenes look at new finds and hear how Australia’s leading fossil experts piece together the stories of long‑lost creatures. A must‑see for anyone curious about prehistory and scientific discovery.
Marine Biology
Dive into the world of marine science and explore how researchers investigate life beneath the waves. This workshop offers a simple, engaging introduction to the organisms, environments and techniques that help us understand our oceans. Perfect for students who love the beach, marine life or environmental science.
GIS & Surveying
Discover how modern mapping technology helps us make sense of the world. From capturing images of Adelaide from above to using drone tools to study wildlife, you’ll see how geospatial science solves real‑world challenges in smart, innovative ways. This session is ideal if you enjoy tech, problem‑solving and the outdoors — and want to see how these interests can lead to an exciting, high‑demand career.
Animal Behaviour
Take a guided look into how scientists study the behaviour of animals in the field and the lab. You’ll explore a real research facility and learn how animal behaviour research helps us understand wildlife and the natural world. A great option for anyone interested in biology, ecology or working with animals.
Environmental Science
Get a hands‑on introduction to environmental science as you explore how researchers study coasts, oceans and natural systems. You’ll see demonstrations that reveal how our environment works and how science helps us understand changes happening around us. Ideal for students passionate about sustainability and the outdoors.
Plus — Free Lunch!
